Wolfgang Darsow
Wolfgang Darsow (born May 28, 1911 in Petersdorf / Neumark , † August 26, 1954 in Trier ) was a German classical archaeologist .
Darsow studied classical archeology in Berlin , Cologne , Munich and Palermo . On February 20, 1937 he received his doctorate with Andreas Rumpf in Cologne with the dissertation Sicilian roof terracottas . He then worked briefly at the Berlin museums and at the headquarters of the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin before he was able to travel to the eastern Mediterranean (Egypt, Palestine, Greece) from 1938–1939 with the travel grant of the German Archaeological Institute . He then did military service in World War II . From 1948 he first worked in Marburg , from 1951 until his death he was an employee of the central management of the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin. From 1952 he was secretary of the Archaeological Society in Berlin . The processing of the plastic finds from Rudolf Herzog's excavations on Kos was entrusted to him, which he was unable to complete due to his early death from an incurable disease.
