Wolfgang Ebner

Wolfgang Ebner (* 1612 in Augsburg ; † February 12, 1665 in Vienna ) was a German organist , conductor and composer.

Life

From 1634 he was organist at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna and from 1637 he also played this instrument in the Vienna Court Music Orchestra . There he received the position of Kapellmeister in 1663. His twin brother Markus (1612–1681) also worked in Vienna and was organist in the court orchestra there from 1655 to 1680.

Wolfgang Ebner created variations for the harpsichord (Aria augustissimi ac invictissimi Imperatoris Ferdinandi III: XXXVI modis variata, ac pro cimbalo accomodata, Prague, 1648) as well as dances, ballet music and a motet .

Together with JJ Froberger, Ebner is considered to be the founder of the Viennese pianist school.
