Wolfgang Fischer (church musician)

Wolfgang Fischer (born August 5, 1932 in Dresden ; † March 5, 2011 in Rüdersdorf near Berlin ) was a German church musician and hymn composer.

Life

Wolfgang Fischer was a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor as a child . In the Elbe city he also began studying church music, which he continued in Berlin.

From 1957 to 1974, Wolfgang Fischer cantor at the cathedral to Brandenburg (Havel) and taught church music at the city's seminary .

From 1966 to 1979 he held the office of regional church music director of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg (East Region) and from 1974 to 1997 he was a church councilor at the church chancellery of the Evangelical Church of the Union (EKU, today: UEK), speaker for church music and worship. At the same time he took up the post of cantor at the St. Bartholomew Church in Berlin . From 1991 to 1997 he also headed the EKU Chamber for Church Music.

In 1997 Fischer retired, which he spent in Berlin. He died on March 5, 2011.

Compositions

Fischer wrote numerous compositions for hymns. His canon setting of the Christ word "See, I am with you all days" ( Matthew 28:20) from 1967 was used as an accompanying canon to the hymn "Help, Lord of my Life" by Gustav Lohmann / Markus Jenny and Hans Pulse recorded in the Evangelical Hymn book (No. 419).

Other functions

For many years, Wolfgang Fischer was co-editor of the magazine Musik und Kirche .
