Wolfgang Franke (born May 24, 1954 , † July 2006 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a German football player .
Career
Franke played at Eintracht Duisburg until 1974 . In the year of the World Cup, he moved to Bayer 05 Uerdingen , with whom he played in the northern season of the 2nd Bundesliga . It was the first season of the 2nd Bundesliga and Franke made his debut on matchday nine when he came on as a substitute in the 3-0 home game against Schwarz-Weiß Essen . During the season he was able to assert himself better and better. From the 31st match day he was part of the regular staff and regularly played over 90 minutes. He played 17 games and scored four goals, contributing to second place in the final table behind Hannover 96 . Second place made promotion to the Bundesliga possible and there were two promotion games against the second in the southern season, FK Pirmasens . In the first leg, coach Klaus Quinkert relied on Franke in the first half, who justified his line-up in the 24th minute with the 2-1 opening goal in the meantime. In the second half, Friedhelm Funkel continued to play for the injured Franke, the game ended 4: 4. Franke did not play in the 6-0 second leg win for Uerdingen. Uerdingen rose and Franke played in the Bundesliga the following year. He completed five games in which he was only involved in the profit of one point. Bayer 05 finished last in the table and were relegated again. Franke played another year at Bayer, in the 2nd Bundesliga he played 17 more games. With the fourth place in the table, which the Uerdingen occupied at the end of the season, Franke said goodbye to the works team and signed on to the second division promoted 1. FC Bocholt . Franke completed 35 games in the 1977/78 season and scored four goals, but he could not prevent Bocholt's direct relegation. Franke stayed in Bocholt and won the championship in the Oberliga Nordrhein with his team in the 1979/80 season , which meant he was promoted again to the 2nd Bundesliga. He also took part with the club in the 1980 German amateur championship . After recurring injuries, he ended his career in 1982.
