Wolfgang Friedrich Geß

Wolfgang Friedrich Geß (born July 27, 1819 in Kirchheim unter Teck , † June 1, 1891 in Wernigerode ) was a German Protestant theologian .

From 1850 to 1864 he was theological teacher in Basel at the Mission House of the Basel Mission . He then became a professor for systematic theology in Göttingen, and from 1871 in Breslau . In 1879 he was appointed to succeed Friedrich Cranz (1809-1878), who had been General Superintendent in Posen , who had been in office since 1854 . Geß took up his new office in April 1880 and was general superintendent of the old Prussian church province of Posen until 1884 . Johannes Ezekiel followed him in office. He retired in Wernigerode.

The main work of the Bible Student was the multi-volume Christ Person and Work based on Christ's self-testimony and the testimonies of the Apostles (1878–1887). Geß is known as the main exponent of Kenose .

His son was the historian Felician Geß (1861–1938).
