Wolfgang Grodd (2000)

Wolfgang Grodd (born July 25, 1942 in Detmold ) is a German neuroradiologist . He is a professor emeritus at the University of Tübingen and is known for his scientific research on the further development and application of structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging for neurobiological questions and cognitive processes. Wolfgang Grodd is currently working at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics .

Life

After W. Grodd was a temporary soldier in the German Armed Forces from 1959 to 1964 and trained as a technician for electronics, he made up his Abitur at the Westfalen Kolleg in Bielefeld in 1968 and studied biology from 1968 to 1977 and medicine from 1974 to 1981 of the University of Tübingen . From 1972 to 1975 he was a scholarship holder of the Evangelical Student Union Villigst . He received his diploma in biology in 1977 and his license to practice medicine in 1981. This was followed by specialist training as a radiologist at the Medical Radiation Institute of the University of Tübingen (1981–1986), which was interrupted from 1984 to 1985 by a DFG research stay at the Department of Radiology at the University of San Francisco.

In 1987 he first switched to the Department of Neuroradiology at the University of Tübingen as a specialist, where he was senior physician from 1991 to 1995. In 1991 he completed his habilitation in the field of radiology / neuroradiology on the subject of experimental and clinical investigations on volume-selective proton spectroscopy of the human brain, and in the same year he received the license to teach neuroradiology. The following year W. Grodd was appointed professor of neuroradiology at the Steglitz Clinic at the Free University of Berlin , but declined. From 1995 he was Professor and Head of the Scientific Section Experimental Nuclear Magnetic Resonance of the Central Nervous System at the University Hospital Tübingen, where he gave his farewell lecture in 2010. Grodd is currently working in the High-field Magnetic Resonance Department at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics .

Awards

In 1988, 1989, 1992 and 1998 Grodd was awarded the Kurt Decker Prize of the German Society for Neuroradiology for his research . In 1989 he received the prize from the German Society for Neurotraumatology .

Membership in scientific associations

In addition to the German Roentgen Society (DRG) , Grodd is a member of the European Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB) and the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR) . Other international associations in which Grodd is scientifically active are the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine , the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) , the American Society of Advancement of Science (AAAS) , the Society for Neuroscience (SNS) and the International Society Human Brain Mapping (HBM).

Publications

Grodd is the author or co-author of more than 250 publications in neuroscience journals and 26 chapters in monographs and books.
