Wolfgang H. Scholz

Wolfgang H. Scholz (born October 5, 1958 in Dresden ) is a German painter, photographer and film director. He lives and works in Mexico City and Munich .

Life

Scholz grew up in Dresden in an old family of craftsmen. In the early 1980s he studied civil engineering and painting / graphics in Dresden, and from 1987 to 1988 graphology with Ingeborg Rudolph in Leipzig. In 1989 he went to Munich , where he had a teaching position at the University of Television and Film (HFF) from 1990 to 1991 . He has worked for various television stations since 1992, including Bayerischer Rundfunk , Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk , Second German Television and ARTE . In 1994 he founded the production company Sic! Together with Meinhard Prill . Film GmbH and shot his first feature film “Schattensucher”, which describes his childhood in Dresden.

In 2001 Scholz went to Mexico City. He is married to the Mexican dancer, choreographer and director of the Centro Cultural "Los Talleres" Isabel Beteta De Cou in Mexico City. In 2013 he was appointed to the Saxon Academy of the Arts. The UNAM film library and the Chopo Museum (Mexico City) presented an extensive retrospective of his work in 2016 and 2017.
