career

Habel played for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen since 1965 , first in the youth, then in the amateur team. The 1.82 m tall midfielder moved up in 1971 with Franz-Josef Tenhagen , Willi Jansen and Friedel Szeimies from the amateur team in the Bundesliga squad of Oberhausen. The other players Ulrich Kallius , Willi Mumme , Bernd Hoffmann , Gerd Wörmer , Franz Emans , Ludwig Denz , Fred Hoff and Herbert Liedtke also joined the team from the Niederrhein Stadium . The main task was to replace the departures of Franz Krauthausen and Wolfgang Sühnholz to FC Bayern Munich and Dieter Brozulat to Munich 1860. Under coach Günter Brocker , Habel played his only Bundesliga game for RWO on matchday 27, April 8, 1972, in a 1: 2 away defeat at bottom of the table Borussia Dortmund , when he was substituted on for Gert Fröhlich at half-time . Due to the absence of the previously injured colleagues Dick, Mumme, Hoff and Wörmer, the suspended Tenhagen and the two injured Hermann-Josef Wilbertz and Fröhlich during the game in Dortmund, Habel and Szeimies got his only Bundesliga appearance. RWO achieved relegation in 15th place with 25:43 points. Habel was also part of the Oberhausen Bundesliga squad in the 1972/73 season, but was no longer used. He did not play any other games for Oberhausen.
