Life

Hoffmann studied at the University of Cologne and Pennsylvania Business Administration and graduated in 1989 as a business graduate from. He then worked for the sports rights marketer UFA Sports and later at Sportfive for the marketing of some football clubs in the new federal states . In 1998 UFA Sports also took over the marketing of Hamburger SV.

On December 16, 2002, HSV announced Hoffmann's commitment. He took office on February 1, 2003. In December 2007, his contract was extended for a further four years to December 31, 2011. In March 2011 Hoffmann did not get the necessary two-thirds majority with 7: 5 votes. The contract with Hoffmann, which expired at the end of 2011, should not be extended; In March 2011 the HSV announced that they had separated from Bernd Hoffmann with immediate effect.

From January 2013 to January 2018 Hoffmann was the managing partner of the player consulting agency Lanista Sports Management GmbH .

On February 18, 2018, Hoffmann was elected President of Hamburger SV e.V. with 51.09 percent of the vote. V., which makes him a natural member of the supervisory board of HSV Fußball AG , to which the licensed player department has been outsourced since 2014. On February 27, 2018, he was elected Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board before taking over the chairmanship of the board on March 7. In the role of chairman of the supervisory board of HSV Fußball AG, Hoffmann was largely responsible for the premature separation of HSV from the then chairman of the board, Heribert Bruchhagen, and from the then director of professional football Jens Todt . The separation took place just one day after Hoffmann was elected Chairman of the Supervisory Board, on March 8, 2018. Hoffmann announced this change in personnel with the words: "This is now the new start that we need". A short time later, on March 12, 2018, the previous HSV coach Bernd Hollerbach was dismissed and replaced by Bruchhagen's acting successor Frank Wettstein with the previous U21 coach Christian Titz . The personnel changes fit in with Hoffmann's concept, who, according to his own statement, wants to push ahead with a "realignment" of the Hamburg football club. With Titz as head coach, HSV was able to reduce the gap to the relegation place from seven points at the time of taking office before the last game day to two points. Despite a win on the last match day, HSV relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time on May 12, 2018 . On May 26, 2018, the Supervisory Board delegated Hoffmann on an interim basis - according to the Stock Corporation Act for a maximum of one year ( Section 105 (2) sentence 1 AktG) - to the position of CEO his mandate on the supervisory board was suspended during this time. On September 19, 2018, Hoffmann resigned as President of the e. V. and was appointed by the supervisory board of HSV Fußball AG as chairman of the board until 2021.

On March 28, 2020, the supervisory board released Hoffmann after differences with the other board members Jonas Boldt (sports) and Frank Wettstein (finance). Hoffmann and the Supervisory Board then agreed to terminate his contract, which ran until June 30, 2021, on April 11, 2020.

Hoffmann is divorced, has four children (two twins) and lives with his girlfriend Sandra Henke in Hamburg.
