Wolfgang Herrmann (politician, 1939)

Wolfgang Herrmann (born June 5, 1939 in Grossenhain ) is a former German politician in the GDR ( SED ). In November / December 1989 he was the first secretary of the SED's Neubrandenburg district leadership .

Life

Herrmann learned to be a carpenter after attending primary school . He then worked in the profession and after his qualification as a civil engineer he worked as a technologist and site manager. He became a member of the Free German Youth (FDJ) and joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in 1963. From 1964 to 1975 he held full-time positions in the FDJ, most recently from 1971 to 1975 as the second secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Neubrandenburg. After studying from 1975 to 1978 at the party college of the CPSU in Moscow, which he graduated as a social scientist, he was initially an employee and from 1980 to 1984 department head of the Neubrandenburg district management of the SED. Then he became an employee of the Central Committee of the SED . From 1985 to 1988 he worked as an advisor to the Sandinista Front for National Liberation (FSLN) in Nicaragua . After his return he was elected on December 10, 1988 at the SED district delegate conference to succeed Kurt Guter as First Secretary of the SED district leadership in Prenzlau. On November 14, 1989, he succeeded Johannes Chemnitzer as first secretary of the SED district leadership in Neubrandenburg. He exercised this function for only a few weeks until the resignation of the entire district management on December 11, 1989.

After the reunification in the GDR , Herrmann became a member of the Democratic Socialist Party (PDS) and was a member of the Prenzlau city council from 1990 to 1997. He was also a member of the PDS state executive committee for Brandenburg . He later joined the German Communist Party (DKP) and was a temporary member of the party executive. Herrmann is a member of the " RotFuchs -Förderverein e. V. “and Chairman of the Association for the Promotion of German-Nicaraguan Friendship Nueva Nicaragua . He lives in the Dreesch district in the Grünow community (near Prenzlau) .
