Wolfgang Kahl (born April 11, 1965 in Munich ) is a German law scholar and university professor.

Life

After studying law and political science in Augsburg and Munich and working as an assistant to Reiner Schmidt (University of Augsburg) as well as teaching at the University of Politics in Munich, Kahl was initially professor of public law at Justus-Liebig after completing his habilitation in 1999 -University of Giessen (2000–2004) and - as successor to Peter M. Huber - at the University of Bayreuth (2004–2009).

Since 2009, as the successor to Eberhard Schmidt-Aßmann , Kahl has been Professor of Public Law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the same there as Managing Director of the Institute for German and European Administrative Law (IVR). He also heads the research center for sustainability law at Heidelberg University, which he founded in 2009 .

In the summer semester 2014 and winter semester 2014/15 Kahl was a fellow at the Marsilius-Kolleg (Center for Advanced Studies) at Heidelberg University.

Klaus Ferdinand Gärditz (University of Bonn), Andreas Glaser (University of Zurich) and Jan Henrik Klement (University of Mannheim) completed their habilitation under Kahl .

Kahl is married and has two sons.

Research priorities

Kahl's research focuses on German and European constitutional and administrative law, in particular general administrative law, sustainability law, environmental and planning law, energy law and in the area of ​​German and European fundamental rights.

He is the editor of the Law of Sustainable Development (RNE) series and co-editor of the Bonn Commentary on the Basic Law , the German Administrative Gazette (DVBl), the Journal for Environmental Policy & Environmental Law (ZfU) and the Journal for European Environmental and Planning Law (EurUP).

Before the Association of German Constitutional Law Teachers , Kahl reported in 2005 in Frankfurt am Main on the subject of "Language as a cultural and legal asset".

Memberships and offices

Kahl is a member of the Association of German Constitutional Law Teachers (VDStRL) , the Societas Iuris Publici Europaei (SIPE) and the Permanent Deputation of the German Lawyers' Association (djt) . He is also a founding member and board member of the Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE) .

Kahl was a member of the inquiry commission of the Hessian state parliament on the reform of the constitution of the state of Hesse (2003-2005), the project group Environmental Code (UGB) in the Federal Environment Ministry (2006-2007) and the standing committee of the German Law Faculty Conference (DJFT, 2005-2014) . From 2005 to 2008 he was a member of the Presidium and from 2008 to 2014 Vice President of the General Faculty Conference (AFT).
