Wolfgang Klimm

Wolfgang Klimm (born October 7, 1943 in Leipzig ) is a German dentist . From 1985 to 1993 he worked as a professor at the Medical Academy Dresden and from 1994 to 2009 at the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Dresden and at the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital in Dresden .

Life

After graduating from high school in Lützen , studying stomatology in Volgograd and working in Weimar in 1968, Hermann Wolfgang Klimm went to the University of Leipzig . As a scientific assistant at the Polyclinic for Conservative Stomatology, he received his doctorate in 1969, was recognized as a specialist dentist for general stomatology in 1972, and completed his habilitation in 1981 with the thesis "On the antibacterial and plaque- inhibiting effectiveness of locally applied fluorides and chlorhexidine with special consideration of caries-inducing plaque streptococci", completed the postgraduate studies in university education and acquired the teaching qualification . In 1984 he was appointed professor for conservative stomatology. In 1985 he was appointed full professor to the chair for conservative stomatology at the Medical Academy Carl Gustav Carus Dresden. In 1994 he followed the call as C4 professor for tooth preservation at the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Dresden. From 2003 to 2006 he was Managing Director of the Center for Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine at this university.

Scientific activity

Wolfgang Klimm published several textbooks and over 100 original papers. His main research interests were a. the prophylaxis of changes to the marginal periodontium of pregnant women and young mothers, oral microbiology (antibacterial effects of fluorides and chlorhexidine, microbial colonization of the margins of restorations, microecology, treatment of the infected root canal with chlorhexidine), controlled clinical studies on composites, chronic dental hard tissue trauma and . Since 1997 he has been a member and head of the Working Group for the Stimulation of Caries Research in Europe of the European Organization for Caries Research (ORCA) and from 2001 to 2004 a member of the Advisory Council of this society. He gave guest lectures at the universities of Moscow, Volgograd, London, Gothenburg and Nijmegen.

His services also include 126 scientific lectures and posters, over 100 advanced training courses and the supervision of 37 doctoral students.

Awards

In 1981 he received the Doberentz Prize of the University of Leipzig, in 1996 the annual best price from the German Society for Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine (DGZMK), in 2005 the International Poster Journal Award from the DGZMK and Quintessenz Verlag and in 2011 the annual best price from the German Dental Journal and the DGZMK.
