Wolfgang Lipp (sociologist)

Wolfgang Lipp (born December 21, 1941 in Linz , † December 16, 2014 in Würzburg ) was a German sociologist .

He studied a. a. at the Universities of Vienna and Münster and received his doctorate in 1967 from the University of Bochum . In 1977 he completed his habilitation at Bielefeld University on the subject of stigma and charisma. About social border behavior (published 1985). He worked as a full professor at the University of Würzburg . He spent guest stays at Vanderbilt University in Nashville , Tennessee , USA; at the University of Trento , Italy, at the Seigakuin University, Tokyo and at the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research in Altenberg near Vienna.

Influenced by his studies with Helmut Schelsky , he turned to cultural sociology at an early stage and dealt primarily with fundamental questions of cultural sociology, especially the problem of the origin of culture. In theory, he brought the charisma together with the stigma debate.

He was co-editor of the cultural sociology program and co-editor of the publications on cultural sociology . In 1985 Lipp became involved in a "cultural sociology" working group of the German Society for Sociology , which later became the DGS section of the same name.
