Wolfgang Lohmann (sports scientist)

Wolfgang Lohmann (born December 31, 1930 ; † September 17, 2011 ) was a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

After completing his studies, Lohmann was a research assistant at the Institute for Physical Education at the University of Leipzig , then at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK), where he wrote in 1967 on the topic of “About the value of special preparatory exercises in athletic disciplines for physical education and their use in Sports textbooks for the hand of the students ”. At the Athletics Institute of the DHfK, he was head of the jumping specialist group and head of the research group for young athletes. In his research work, he dealt with aspects of athletics training, with young competitive sport, dealt with technology in athletic disciplines, On behalf of the German Association for Athletics (DVfL), Lohmann was in charge of a project that lasted several years, in which a training concept for the basic training was developed. At the DVfL he was a member of the coaching councils for basic training and jumping / all-around. For his work in sports science he was awarded the GuthsMuths Prize of the German Democratic Republic .

Lohmann worked there until the DHfK was dissolved in 1992. After the founding of the Athletics Association of Saxony, he built the association as the first instructor and was involved in the creation of the “Children's Athletics” program of the German Athletics Association (DLV).

He was the author or co-author of several athletics textbooks, including "From running, jumping and throwing", "Athletics training programs" (together with Gunter Fritzsche), and "Athletics - jumping training programs: the path to excellent technology" (together with Klaus-Jürgen Hempel and Gerd Schröter ).
