Wolfgang Meyer (born July 26, 1934 in Berlin ; † March 23, 2011 ) was a German journalist and functionary in the GDR .

Life

Wolfgang Meyer was the son of a bank employee. From 1940 to 1953 he attended elementary and high school in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg. After graduating from high school, he studied Slavic Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1957 to 1975 he worked for ADN as editor and foreign correspondent. From 1960 to 1963 he was a correspondent in Léopoldville (Congo) and Bamako (Mali). In 1962 he joined the SED . From 1967 to 1971 he was ADN correspondent at the UN in New York. In 1975 he became head of the Press and Information Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . In November 1989 he became head of the press office at the Council of Ministers and the first and only government spokesman for the GDR in the Modrow government . His first act was to announce the resignation of the Stoph government in the wake of unrest and demonstrations across the country.

He was the managing director of the Institute for Applied Economics a. Social research "Conkret" in Berlin and from 1999 to 2005 employee of the PDS honorary chairman Hans Modrow . Most recently he was an employee of the Left Party headquarters in Berlin.
