Wolfgang Pröhl (born February 12, 1931 ) is a former German soccer player who started out as a field player and later became a soccer goalkeeper. For progress Meerane and Einheit Ost / Rotation Leipzig he played in the 1950s and 1960s in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

Until 1950, Wolfgang Pröhl was a player in the company sports community (BSG) Motor in the Leipzig district of Stötteritz , most recently in the district class. For the 1950/51 season he was taken over by the BSG Einheit Ost Leipzig and had him play in the junior team. For the first half of the season 1951/52 Pröhl was delegated to the upper division progress Meerane, but was only used twice as a defender. In the second half of the season he played again at BSG Einheit Ost, where he was the goalkeeper of the first team in twelve point games in the second-rate GDR league . When the BSG unit reached promotion to the GDR upper league in 1952/53, goalkeeper Pröhl was only represented in six point games.

In the league season 1953/54 coach Otto Winter Pröhl put on the 2nd match day as a substitute for Heinz Franke again as goalkeeper. On the 14th matchday Pröhl came on for the injured defender Rolf Sommer , and then Pröhl remained a substitute field player in ten other league games. Since he was primarily used as a striker in these games, he scored seven goals. Under coach Heinz Krügel , Pröhl returned from the 1954/55 season, in the course of which the BSG unit east was incorporated into the newly founded SC rotation, back into goal. Until 1958 (calendar year season) Pröhl remained a regular goalkeeper for Leipzig, because since 1954/55 he had played 78 games of the 104 point games played.

In 1957, Pröhl was part of the B national team, for which he played an international match against Czechoslovakia (1: 3) on October 27. On October 29, 1958, he was called up as goalkeeper for the Messestädte Cup game of the Leipzig city selection at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise , but was replaced by Günter Busch from SC Lokomotive Leipzig in the 63rd minute when the score was 0: 6 . The game ended in a 6-1 defeat.

In the 1958 league season, Pröhl had to be represented several times by Wolfgang Klank , who had come to SC rotation in 1956 , and was finally replaced as the new goalkeeper in the 1959 season. Up to the 1962/63 season (again summer / spring season) Pröhl was only used in 33 league games. At the age of 31 Pröhl went into his last league season in 1962/63, in which he was again in six league games for the SC rotation in the gate. When the Leipzig league football was then reorganized with the dissolution of the two sports clubs, Pröhl took this as an opportunity to end his competitive sports career after 125 championship games in the league.
