Marie-Gérard Dubois

Marie-Gérard Dubois (born November 26, 1929 in Lille ; † July 2, 2011 in Soligny-la-Trappe , Orne ) was a French Roman Catholic clergyman, Trappist and abbot .

life and work

Gérard Dubois entered the Mont des Cats monastery in 1947 , made his temporary profession in 1949 and his solemn profession in 1954 (after military service in Algeria ) and studied theology at the Gregoriana in Rome from 1955 to 1958 . After being ordained a priest in 1957 (by Cardinal Achille Liénart ) he was novice master in his monastery from 1965 and prior from 1972 . In 1976 he went to the La Trappe monastery as superior and was abbot there (under the religious name Marie-Gérard ) from 1977 to 2003 (successor: Guerric Reitz-Sejotte).

Dubois was an expert in liturgical history . From 1965 he was a member of the Trappist Liturgy Commission , and from 1967 of the Commission Francophone Cistercienne pour la création de textes liturgiques (CFC), of which he became President. From 1977 to 2010 he was (after the abolition of the commission) liturgy secretary of the Trappists (successor: Justin Sheehan, Trappist Abbey of Genesee ).
