Wolfgang Riedel (geographer)

Wolfgang Michael Riedel (born May 5, 1942 in Braunschweig ) is a German geographer , geomorphologist and university professor .

Life

Riedel studied geography , soil science and archeology at the University of Hamburg , the TU Braunschweig and the University of Madrid and was later a scientific assistant at the former University of Education in Flensburg and a lecturer at the Sankelmark Academy . In addition, he was the district nature conservation officer of the Schleswig-Flensburg district and state nature conservation officer in Schleswig-Holstein as well as head of the central office for regional studies in Schleswig-Holstein in Eckernförde .

In 1994 he was offered the C4 professorship for landscape planning and landscaping at the University of Rostock , which he held until his retirement in 2007. From 2002 to 2006 he was dean of his faculty. In 2011 he represented teaching in physical geography at the University of Flensburg.

In 1994 Riedel was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

Riedel is one of the pioneers of nature conservation and the principle of biotope networking both nationally and internationally . He conducts research in Spain , Portugal , Northern Germany and East Asia on geomorphological topics, landscape planning and landscape development and is the author of a standard work on landscape planning.

Since January 1979 Riedel has been the editor of the journal Natur- und Landeskunde: Journal for Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Mecklenburg .

Wolfgang Riedel lives in Flensburg, is married and has three children.
