Wolfgang Rudolph (agronomist)

Wolfgang Rudolph (born August 1, 1930 in Halle (Saale) ; † January 4, 2020 in Rostock ) was a German agricultural scientist and professor for small animal breeding and genetics at the University of Rostock .

Live and act

Rudolph was born in Halle (Saale). In February 1945 he witnessed the heavy bombing raids on Dresden . After graduating from high school in Halle (1949) and agricultural apprenticeship, he studied agriculture at the University of Halle and graduated in 1954 with the diploma examination. This was followed by work as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Poultry Farming in Merbitz (today Wettin-Löbejün, Saalekreis). In 1960 he received his doctorate from the Agricultural and Horticultural Faculty of the Humboldt University Berlin (HUB) with Prof. Fritz Lützenberg as Dr. agr. and in the following year became department head at the Merbitz Institute, which was subordinated to the newly founded Association of Nationally Owned Enterprises (VVB) animal breeding in Paretz in 1962/1963 .

In 1965, Rudolph moved to the Volkseigen Gut (VEG) Greifswald and worked here as the poultry breeding department manager . A year later he completed his habilitation at the HUB and became a lecturer for poultry and small animal breeding at the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Rostock, from 1969 in the animal production section there. From 1976 he taught here as a full professor for small animal breeding and domestic animal genetics, and from 1990 again at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. He retired in 1992 and died on January 4, 2020 in Rostock.
