Wolfgang Schaller (born April 20, 1940 in Breslau ) is a German cabaret writer.

Life

After studying at the Löbau Teachers' Institute and the "Johannes R. Becher" literature institute in Leipzig, Schaller was a German and music teacher and head of the youth cabaret "Die Fahrtlacher" in Görlitz . He moved to Dresden and directed the cabaret “Die Lachkarte” of the Robotron combine .

Schaller has been an author and dramaturge at the cabaret Herkuleskeule in Dresden since 1970 , from 1986 to 2017 he was artistic director and from 1997 to 2012 artistic director of the cabaret. He wrote over 50 programs for the Keule, ten of them together with Peter Ensikat. Programs were called e.g. B. "Citizens, protect your facilities", "It depends on you, not everyone". On January 1, 2020, he handed over the management of the Herkuleskeule to his son Philipp Schaller .

For ten years he gave programs together with Wolfgang Stumph and Rainer Schulze .

Schaller has been writing satirical columns for the Sächsische Zeitung regularly since 1991 .

In 1988, Schaller was awarded the National Prize of the GDR and in 2009, together with Peter Ensikat, was awarded the “Star of Satire” from the German Cabaret Archive.

In 2018, Schaller was honored with the title “Dresdner of the Year” by the readers of the newspaper Wochenkurier Dresden.

Schaller lives in Dresden and has been married to the cabaret artist Birgit Schaller (* 1961) since 1987 . He has four children, including the cabaret artists and authors Ellen Schaller and Philipp Schaller.
