Wolfgang Schroeder (born June 10, 1960 in Mayen , Eifel ) is a German political scientist . At the University of Kassel he is professor for the political system of the Federal Republic of Germany . From 2009 to 2014 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Women and Family of the State of Brandenburg .

Life

From 1980 to 1986 Wolfgang Schroeder studied political science in Marburg , Vienna, Tübingen and Frankfurt am Main. After graduating from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main in 1986, he was employed as a research assistant at this university from 1987 to 1991. In 1991 he did his doctorate at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen on the subject of Catholicism and the unified trade union. The dispute over the DGB and the decline of social Catholicism in the Federal Republic until 1960 . In 1999 he worked as a visiting scholar in the Institutions and Social Change department at the Berlin Science Center .

From 1991 to 1997, Schroeder was a consultant in the fundamental issues department of the IG Metall board in Frankfurt / Main. From 1997 to 2000 he was a consultant for industrial relations and responsible for fundamental questions of collective bargaining policy, contacts with parliament and the parties. In 2000, he became head of the European tariff coordination department on the IG Metall executive board, which lasted until 2003. Finally, from 2003 to 2006 he was head of the social policy department on the IG Metall board.

In 2000 he received his habilitation at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt on the subject of the German model on the test bench. On the development of industrial relations in East Germany . Since 2001 he has been teaching as a private lecturer at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt. In the summer semester 2001 he was a substitute professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt and in 2005 he was a visiting fellow at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University .

Since May 2006 Schroeder has headed the department “Political System of the FRG - Statehood in Transition” at the University of Kassel . In 2009 he was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Women and Family of the State of Brandenburg under Minister Günter Baaske . Wolfgang Schroeder ended his work as State Secretary in January 2014 and returned to his department in Kassel on February 1, 2014.

Schroeder is a member of the SPD's Basic Values ​​Commission .
