Wolfgang Vienna

Wolfgang Wien is a Brigadier General of the Army of the Bundeswehr and has been Chief of Staff of the German military representation at the NATO Military Committee and the EU in Brussels since January 1, 2017 .

Military career

Vienna joined the Bundeswehr in 1982. from 1983 to 1986 he studied economics at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . He graduated with a degree in business administration . From 1995 to 1997 he completed the general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. From 2001 to 2004 he was employed as a consultant for strategy, military-political concepts and counter-terrorism in the Federal Ministry of Defense . This was followed by a position as commander of the 421 Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Brandenburg an der Havel from 2004 to 2006. From 2006 to 2007, Vienna was employed as a tutor in general staff training at the command academy of the Bundeswehr. From 2007 to 2010 he was employed as an adjutant and office manager of the Deputy Inspector General and Inspector of the Armed Forces Base, Vice Admiral Wolfram Kühn . He was then deployed from 2010 to 2012 as head of the department for the staff of the German military representative at NATO and the EU in Brussels. From 2012 to 2013, Vienna completed a master's degree in National Security Strategy at the National Defense University / National War College in Washington, DC, in the USA. Vienna then became Director of Teaching and Head of Staff at the Federal Academy for Security Policy in Berlin. He then became head of the office of State Secretary Gerd Hoofe in the Federal Ministry of Defense. On January 1, 2017, Vienna became the successor to Brigadier General Michael Oberneyer , Chief of Staff of the German military representation at the NATO Military Committee and the EU in Brussels. On this post he was also promoted to brigadier general.
