Michael Gerhard Oberneyer (* 1962 in Mölln ) is a Brigadier General of the German Armed Forces and Defense Attaché on the Military Attaché Staff of the German Embassy in London .

Life

Training and first uses

Oberneyer joined the German Armed Forces on July 1, 1983 in Albersdorf as a temporary soldier and was trained as an officer candidate for the NBC defense force . From 1984 to 1987 he studied pedagogy at the Helmut Schmidt University - Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg . From 1996 to 1998 Oberneyer was trained as an officer in the general staff service at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr , also in Hamburg .

Service as a staff officer

From October 1998 to March 2000 Oberneyer was employed as a staff officer for military intelligence (G 2) in the IV Corps in Schwielowsee near Potsdam . This was followed by an activity as a consultant in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Berlin in the field of military policy and bilateral relations until September 2002. As a result, Oberneyer took over the command of the NBC Defense Battalion 7 in Höxter on September 18, 2004 as battalion commander from Lieutenant Colonel Andreas Bednarzyk . He led the deployment of a contingent of his battalion in Kuwait as part of Operation Enduring Freedom . There it formed the NBC defense battalion Kuwait . Service as a general

From August 2013 to January 2017, Oberneyer was Brigadier General Deputy German Military Representative and Chief of Staff at NATO and the European Union in Brussels , before handing this post over to Brigadier General Wolfgang Vienna . As of January 2017, Oberneyer himself succeeded Brigadier General Reinhard Kuhn , who was retiring, as the German military representative at NATO's Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons ( Belgium ). Brigadier General Udo Schnittker succeeded him in this post on June 1, 2019 .

On June 28, 2019 Oberneyer took over the official business of the Director NATO Advisory and Liaison Team (NALT) at KFOR from Brigadier General Uwe Alexander Becker . In this post, Oberneyer was replaced by Frank Best . On September 1, 2020, Oberneyer succeeded Brigadier General Ralf Raddatz as Defense Attaché in the military attaché staff of the German Embassy in London .
