The NBC Defense Battalion 7 ( ABCAbwBtl 7 ) is the largest agency of the Bundeswehr in Höxter . The association emerged in 1993 from the 7th Pioneer Battalion, which was then to be dissolved. In April 2013 the battalion was placed under the NBC defense command of the Bundeswehr .

assignment

The NBC Defense Battalion 7 supports units and units from all organizational areas as well as allied and friendly forces in NBC defense in international and multinational cooperation within the scope of the entire range of tasks.

Classic jobs are:

  • ABC reconnaissance through quick and extensive detection and analysis of radiation and chemical warfare agents with the most modern reconnaissance vehicle in the world, the Fuchs armored vehicle.
  • Decontamination of personnel, vehicles, material and, to a limited extent, roads, properties and general infrastructure by removing and neutralizing atomic, biological and chemical substances.
  • Support in the implementation of disinfection and hygiene measures.
  • Treatment of polluted and / or contaminated water for emergency and service water supply.

For the tasks described, the battalion has the most modern equipment for ABC reconnaissance, decontamination and water treatment .

structure

The 7th NBC Defense Battalion consists of a staff and four companies .

The staff supports the battalion commander in leading the battalion in peace, operations and in the case of defense in the basic leadership areas of human resources, military intelligence / military security, operational planning and management, organization and training, as well as logistics and command support.

The 1st Company is the supply and support company. Since October 1, 2013, it has also had a basic training train .

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th companies are the operational companies with the abilities of ABC reconnaissance, decontamination and water treatment.

As a decontamination company, the 5th company has quantitative and comprehensive capabilities in the field of decontamination and is currently being set up at the Husum (SH) location. With two fire protection trains, it takes on the additional task of military fire protection . This was spun off from the special pioneer regiment 164 located at the Husum location.

As a non-active supplementary troop unit, there is also a 6th company (formerly NBC Defense Company 954 of the 1st Panzer Division ).

Sponsorships

The bond between the citizens of the city and the district of Höxter is expressed in the sponsorships, some of which have existed for decades, between individual companies and the cities or towns of Brakel , Beverungen , Brenkhausen , Boffzen and Albaxen . The 4th Company, which "immigrated" from Munster, also brought its own sponsorship with the Suderburg community . This benefits the tradition of the entire battalion, as hydraulic engineering is taught at the technical college there .

history

The barracks named after General Erich Weber Pascha (1861–1933) were built from 1934 to 1936. From 1936 to 1945 it was the headquarters of the Pioneer Battalion 31 (from 1940: PiBtl 131). After the Second World War, occupation troops from England, Belgium and Norway were stationed in the barracks from 1945 to 1949. From 1952 to 1956 the Federal Border Guard was housed there. From 1956 to 1961 the barracks was the seat of the 12th Panzer Grenadier Battalion and, from 1960 to 1993, of the 7th Engineer Battalion.

In the course of the restructuring of the army, the 7th engineer battalion was affiliated with the NBC defense company 3 from Munster from June 5, 1992 . The 7th NBC Defense Battalion, newly established on April 1, 1993, grew out of this nucleus . The former NBC defense company 3 became the 4th company of the battalion and mainly conducts recruiting and special training.

Operations of the converted battalion took place in 1993 as advance command for the 1st contingent UNOSOM and later with UNOSOM II in Somalia, 1995 and 1996 in the advance command of the IFOR operation , 1998/1999 in the SFOR contingent in Raijlovac , 1999/2000 and 2002 within the framework of the KFOR mission in Kosovo and as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait (until 2003) and then in Afghanistan.

In 2005, the battalion was subordinated directly to the 1st Panzer Division instead of the NBC Defense Brigade 100 .

In 2006 the battalion helped secure the NATO summit in Riga .

In the context of disaster relief, the battalion was deployed in 1995 during the Weser floods , in 1997 during the Oder flood in the Oderbruch and in 2002 during the flood disaster on the Elbe.

On September 18, 2004, Michael Oberneyer took over from Lieutenant Colonel Andreas Bednarzyk the command of the NBC Defense Battalion 7 in Höxter . He led a contingent of his battalion in Kuwait as part of Operation Enduring Freedom before handing over command to Lieutenant Colonel Roelof Billmann on September 10, 2004.

coat of arms

The battalion's coat of arms, officially approved on December 15, 1992, was created according to heraldic principles. The old association badge of the 7th Pioneer Battalion has been largely preserved to symbolize the tradition. Only the lower field with the symbol of the NBC defense force, the stylized retorts, was added.

On the (heraldic) left side: the white, soaring Westfalen horse on a red background .

On the (heraldic) right side: the stylized silhouette of the Höxteraner Kilianikirche on a white background . Under the church the stylized bridge, the symbol of the pioneer troop.

On the lower part: stylized retorts on a silver background , the symbol of the NBC defense force.
