Wolfhard Pencz

Wolfhard Pencz (born April 12, 1957 in Rodewisch in Vogtland ) is a German clarinetist and university professor .

Life

Wolfhard Pencz was born the son of a miner in the Vogtland. He received his first clarinet lessons at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Zwickau . After graduating from high school, he studied with Ewald Koch at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin from 1975 to 1980 . 1980-84 he was solo clarinetist with the Staatskapelle Berlin and gave concerts as a soloist a. a. with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Kurt Masur . In September 1984 he switched to the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin as principal clarinet , and in 1986 in the same position with the SWF symphony orchestra (today the SWR symphony orchestras Baden-Baden and Freiburg ). Since 1989 he has been a member of the Bayreuth Festival orchestra .

In addition to solo concerts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Johann Simon Mayr , Louis Spohr and Luciano Berio , he has performed numerous chamber music works on record and with the SWF wind quintet, the chamber harmony of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden , the Charis Ensemble, the Amati Quartet Zurich and the Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss CD recorded.

Wolfhard Pencz has been teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim since 1999 . In 2006 he was appointed honorary professor , in 2008 he was appointed professor for clarinet and clarinet methodology.
