Evgeni Orkin

Evgeni Orkin (born October 2, 1977 in Lemberg , Ukrainian SSR ) is a composer , clarinetist , saxophonist , conductor and author of Ukrainian origin living in Germany .

Life

Orkin studied clarinet with I. Pendischuk and composition with Yevhen Stankowytsch at the National Music Academy in Kiev . Further studies followed at the music academies in Utrecht and Mannheim in the subjects of clarinet with Herman Braune and Wolfhard Pencz , conducting with Melvin Margolis and composition with Ulrich Leyendecker and Ernst Bechert .

Orkin is the author of ten chamber symphonies, six major symphonies, solo concertos for violin, piano, saxophone, clarinet, the opera “Magister Ludi” based on Hermann Hesse , several music-theatrical works and a large number of chamber music works. His works have been performed at many international festivals, including the “Contrasts” festival in Lemberg, the “Kiev Music Festival”, the “New Music” festival in Odessa and the “Odessa Music Festival”, the Heidelberg Spring , the “International Lake Constance Festival 2006”. , at the “New Music Premieres” festival (Kiev), at ZeitGenuss in Karlsruhe, at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival , Wachenheimer Serenaden , LvivMozArt etc.

From 1992 to 1999 Orkin was principal clarinet with the “Soloist Ensemble” of the “Ukraine Camerata Kiew”. In 1997 he was co-founder of the "Open Lift" project for modern music in Utrecht. Orkin is co-founder, clarinetist and saxophonist of the group composers conspiracy , member of the ensemble for new music TEMA in Karlsruhe and founder of the "Dorado-Quintett".

In 2010 he founded the recording label OML. In 2017 his book “Methodical introduction to learning and using the historical clarinet” was published.

As a clarinetist, he has made a name for himself in particular through premieres of new works, for example with the clarinet works by Jewhen Stankowytsch, Valentin Silvestrov , Nuno Corte-Real , Dimitris Andrikopoulos , Ernst Bechert , Erich Hermann , Stefan Schulzki , Stephan Marc Schneider , Martin Wistinghausen and others .

Orkin works as a freelance clarinetist, saxophonist and conductor. He is principal clarinet of the Russian Chamber Philharmonic Saint Petersburg . He teaches clarinet and saxophone at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim , the JSBach-Gymnasium Mannheim and the music schools in Grünstadt and Frankenthal. He is also chief conductor of the Bergstrasse wind workshop in Heppenheim. His works are published by the publishing houses “Accolade”, “Konsid” and “Are Musikverlag”.
