Wolfram Kawohl

Wolfram Kawohl (born October 22, 1971 in Dortmund ) is a German-Swiss doctor specializing in psychiatry and psychotherapy .

Life

After graduating from high school, Wolfram Kawohl studied medicine at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule in Aachen from 1992 to 1999 and then worked clinically and scientifically at university hospitals in Aachen and Zurich.

After professorships in Germany and Switzerland and a guest professorship of several years at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg , he has been adjunct professor for psychiatry and psychotherapy at the University of Zurich since 2015 .

Wolfram Kawohl has been the chief physician and head of the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Psychiatrischedienste Aargau AG (PDAG) with its outpatient, semi-inpatient and inpatient facilities since 2016 .

Scientific contributions

Kawohl's scientific work includes, on the one hand, contributions to research into clinical-neurophysiological aspects of mental functions, disorders and risk states and, on the other hand, the relationship between work and mental health and illness. In particular, health-promoting aspects of work and the improvement of the chances of working despite mental illness are also taken into account.

In 2015 Kawohl published as a senior author together with the sociologist Carlos Nordt in The Lancet Psychiatry a highly acclaimed study on the connection between unemployment and suicide. The associated media release from the University of Zurich was the most cited in 2015. In addition to the Swiss media, u. a. «Spiegel», «Le Figaro», «Economic Times», radio stations as well as Indian and Asian portals a total of 540 times above.

Kawohl also deals with psychopathological and pathophysiological principles and the treatment of Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome.
