Athletic career

In 1954, at the age of seven, Wolfram Meinert was accepted into the children's team of the Stahl Riesa company sports association . In 1964 he was part of the squad of the GDR junior national team and was used as a striker in the junior international match Romania - GDR (3-0) on November 12. In the 1965/66 season he worked for the first time in the league game operation of the 1st men's team from Stahl Riesa, which was playing in the second-rate GDR league at that time . In the 30 point games Meinert was used in seven games, he scored one goal. With 20 game stakes and three goals, he was already part of the Riesa team in 1966/67. From May 1967 to October 1968 he had to do his military service in the National People's Army . He was able to continue playing football in the regional league of the Vorwärts Löbau army sports community . Meinert returned to Stahl Riesa in November 1968. The BSG Stahl had meanwhile been promoted to the GDR league, and by the end of the season Meinert was able to complete his first thirteen top division games. Until 1972, Stahl Riesa was able to assert itself in the league, and Meinert had a regular place as a striker in all seasons. In the seasons 1969/70 to 1971/72 he played 74 of the 78 league games played. 1972 Riesa had to relegate from the league, but rose again immediately after the 1972/73 season. Meinert was significantly involved in the promotion, he played all 22 GDR league games and all eight matches in the promotion round and scored a total of twelve goals. In the following two league series, Meinert's career suffered a setback. 1973/74 he fell out after the 19th match day for a long time and was only used again on the 9th match day of the 1974/75 season in the league team. He then returned to the regular eleven for two years. As a goalscorer, he was able to excel especially in the 1975/76 season with seven goals in 25 league games. In 1977 Meinert rose again from the league with Stahl Riesa. Of the 22 GDR league games, he was only able to complete thirteen matches and only got two goals. Riesa immediately returned to the league, with Meinert participating in all eight promotion games and contributing two goals to the promotion. He then played his last two league seasons, in which he, now used as a defender, missed a total of only four point games, but scored another nine goals. After the 1979/80 season he said goodbye to competitive sports and was able to look back on 214 league appearances with 30 goals and 67 GDR league games with 13 goals within fourteen seasons between 1965 and 1980. As a leisure footballer, he was then still active in the fourth-class district class team of TSG Elsterwerda, with which he was promoted to the district league in 1981.
