Wolfram Steude

Wolfram Steude (born September 20, 1931 in Plauen ; † March 9, 2006 in Dresden ) was a German musicologist and musician .

Life

Steude is the grandson of the Dresden architect Martin Pietzsch . He graduated from the Dresden Kreuzschule and was a Crucian under Rudolf Mauersberger for two years . He studied church music and organ at the church music institute of the University of Music "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig and at the church music school of the Lutheran Lutheran Church. Regional Church of Saxony in Dresden . He then studied music and art studies until 1958. He did his doctorate with Rudolf Eller in 1973 in Rostock .

From 1955 he was a full-time cantor, initially in Leipzig and later until 1976 in Dresden-Loschwitz. In the period from 1961 to 1981, Steude initially worked as a freelancer and then full-time in the music department of the Saxon State Library in Dresden. In 1985 he was jointly responsible for the Heinrich Schütz honor of the GDR and was honored with the national prize for it. Until 1996 he worked initially as a lecturer and curator, from 1992 as a professor at the Music Academy in Dresden.

Wolfram Steude was considered one of the most important Schütz researchers. The association "Heinrich Schütz in Dresden" was founded in January 2006 under his leadership. As part of the musicology department, he set up the Heinrich Schütz Archive , which was officially opened in 1988. His research included Central German music and music cultivation from the Middle Ages to the Baroque . In addition, he was committed to the church choir of the Evangelical Church in Saxony for many years .

He was co-editor of the Schütz yearbook .

His estate is kept in the Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library.
