Wolfram Wöß (* 1969 in Linz , Austria ) is a computer scientist and associate professor as well as deputy director of the Institute for Application-Oriented Knowledge Processing (FAW) at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz .

Life

Wolfram Wöß completed his computer science studies at the Johannes Kepler University Linz with a diploma thesis on " Computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) for small and medium-sized enterprises", during which a CIM system was implemented for the company Sattlerei Niedersüß. This project and his dissertation on the topic of "Conception of a rule-based system for product data management in CIM" served as the foundation for a scientific career at the Institute for Application-Oriented Knowledge Processing (FAW) and the later habilitation at the JKU.

Since the beginning of his career, initially as a university assistant, Wolfram Wöß has managed research collaborations with the saddlery in Niedersüß, the hospital of the Sisters of Mercy in Linz, AMS-Engineering in Hagenberg and the construction company PORR in Salzburg . In a project to develop a semi-automatic window production for Actual Maschinenbau Aktiengesellschaft in Linz, Wolfram Wöß was responsible for the database design. From 2005 to 2010 Wolfram Wöß headed a sub-project of the Austria-wide research project Austrian Grid with the aim of dynamically and seamlessly integrating hardware components, software applications, databases and special devices (for example from the fields of ICT , medical technology or astronomy) as well as the people involved and merging them into virtual organizations . For the quality management of BMW Motoren GmbH Steyr , the world's largest engine manufacturer of the BMW Group and its competence center for diesel engine manufacture, and for BMW AG Munich, Wolfram Wöß and his team developed Q-AURA (quality - abnormalities and cause analysis) in the years 2010-2015 , a system based on intelligent data mining methods for the early detection and root cause analysis of potential product defects.

In addition to his regular review work for international journals and conferences, Wolfram Wöß organized and led the DaWandaK (International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery) in Prague 2003 and Saragossa 2004. He also organized and led the International Workshop on Web Semantics and Web Intelligence the DEXA (Database and Expert Systems Applications) conference in the years 2005-2013 ( Copenhagen , Krakow , Regensburg , Turin , Linz , Bilbao , Toulouse , Vienna , Prague).

Main focus of work and research

Together with his team, Wolfram Wöß deals with research topics in the field of intelligent information systems, in particular with integrated information systems, semantic information integration , ontologies , the semantic web , knowledge-based systems, information engineering and data modeling , data quality , business intelligence , data mining , e-business systems and accessibility in information systems. In addition to his classes at the Johannes Kepler University, Wolfram Wöß supervises graduates and doctoral students who deal with the research areas mentioned.
