The Wolfsbach is an almost four kilometer long, northern and right tributary of the Ruhr in the Essen districts of Bredeney and Werden .

The Wolfsbach rises at a height of about 139  m above sea level. NHN on the Zeißbogen road in Bredeney in the Wolfsbachtal, a notched valley west of the Bredeneyer water tower , and flows off to the south. It takes up the water of the Aseybach on the right and flows out at a height of about 44  m above sea level. NHN in the Werden district on the right into the Ruhr.

The approximately 3.9 kilometer long course of the Wolfsbach ends approximately 95 meters below its source, so it has an average bed gradient of about 24 ‰.

Catchment area

The 3,919 km² catchment area of the Wolfsbach is located in the Ruhr Valley and is drained through it via the Ruhr and the Rhine to the North Sea.

It borders

  • in the east to the catchment area of ​​the Ruhr,
  • to the south of the Huxoldbach , which flows into the Schuirbach ,
  • in the west to that of the Schuirbach itself, which flows into the Ruhr,
  • in the northwest to that of the Ruhr tributary Rumbach and
  • in the north to that of the Borbeck Mühlenbach , which drains over the Berne and Emscher into the Rhine.

history

Carl Günther Ludovici mentioned it in 1748 as "Wolfsbach, a small river in the monastery of Werden in the Grafschaff Marck in the Westphalian Creysse, which falls into the Ruhr near the city of Werden."

The half-timbered structure of the excursion restaurant "Zur Wolfsbachquelle" from 1753 was dismantled elsewhere in 1926 and rebuilt here.
