Wolmar Anton von Schlippenbach

Wolmar Anton von Schlippenbach (* around 1650 in Livonia ; † December 1739 in Moscow ) was a Swedish officer of Baltic German origin and Governor General of Swedish Estonia from 1704 to 1706 .

Life

He came from the noble Schlippenbach family . The exact dates of life are difficult to determine because z. B. 1653 is given as the year of birth and 1721 as the year of death.

Wolmar Anton von Schlippenbach served from 1676 to 1679 as captain of the Swedish army in the Skåne War under Charles XI. He then acted as a major in Swedish Pomerania . In 1688 he rose to lieutenant colonel in the regiment of the governor of Riga , Eric Soop. 1693 he was in the body regiment of the young Crown Prince Karl XII. moved to Stockholm .

When the Great Northern War began, von Schlippenbach, as colonel , led a regiment of dragons in Livonia, some of which he paid for himself, with the task of defending the Livonian border. In 1701 he was promoted to major general. 1704 Schlippenbach was appointed governor general in Reval . In Reval he owned the Schlippenbach house until 1721 .

When Lewenhaupt marched to Russia in 1708 , Schlippenbach followed him as colonel in his dragoon regiment. He fought at his side in the battle of Lesnaya . In the Battle of Poltava he led the Swedish cavalry and was captured after the defeat of the Swedes. For the next six years as a prisoner of war he was loyal to Sweden , but entered Russian service in 1715. He died in Moscow.
