Volodymyr Evtymowytsch Swidsinskyj (born September 26th July / October 8th  1885 greg. In Majaniw , Podolia Governorate , Russian Empire ; † October 18, 1941 in Shestakowe , Kharkiv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian poet and translator of the executed rebirth .

Life

Volodymyr Swidsinskyj was born in 1885 in the village of Majaniv in what is now the Ukrainian Oblast of Vinnytsia . He went to school in Tywriw until 1899 and then attended the Podolian Seminary in Kamyanets-Podilskyj until 1904 . From 1908 to 1913 he studied at the Kiev Trade Institute and then returned to Podolia. In 1912 he published his first poem “I've been waiting for you for a long time ...” in the monthly magazine “Ukrainisches Haus”.

In 1915 he moved to Zhytomyr and between 1916 and 1918 he served in the army. In 1918 he moved to Kamenets-Podolskyj, where he married an elementary school teacher and in 1921 had a daughter. From January 1921 on he worked as an archivist at the University of Kamianets-Podilskyi and in November 1921 he became head of the district archive of the Committee for the Protection of Aging Monuments, Art and Nature. In 1922 his first collection of poems, "Lirytschni poesiji" (dt. Lyric poetry ) was published. Between the beginning of 1923 and July 1925 he was a doctoral student.

In October 1925 he moved to Kharkov and became literary editor of the monthly magazine "Tscherwonoho schljachu" (German Red Way ) and from November 1930 of the newspaper of the Ukrainian military district "Tscherwona armija" (German Red Army ). Between January and September 1932 he worked outside of Kharkov and then worked again for "Chervonoho schljachu" (from 1936 "Literature Journal") in Kharkov. His marriage broke up there and his wife and their daughter moved to live with their sister in Vinnytsia . His wife died a little later on July 12, 1933.

During the evacuation of Kharkov from the approaching Wehrmacht in autumn 1941, Swidsinskyj was arrested by the NKVD and burned alive in a locked shed in the village of Shestakove near Kharkov, along with other prisoners. On March 30, 1964, he was posthumously rehabilitated for lack of evidence.

His 1927-1936 written and printed from 1937 to 1940 in Ukraine poems were of Oleksa Weretentschenko collected and in Munich in the collection "Medobir" (Eng. 1975 Honey Forest published), published in Ukraine in 1986 edition was called "Poesiji" ( German poems ). In 2004, his collected poems and translations were published in two volumes in Kiev.

Stories with folk or exotic motifs were an important part of his work. He also translated classics by Aristophanes , Aesop , Hesiod and Ovid as well as poetry from German, French, Polish and Russian literature.
