Won Yun-jong (born June 17, 1985 in Seoul ) is a South Korean bobsleigh athlete .

Career

Won Yun-jong started bobsleigh in 2010 and made his debut in the World Cup in Park City in December 2010 with the 16th and last place in the four-man bobsleigh as a pusher for Kang Kwang-bae . From January 2011 he started as a pilot in the Bobsleigh North America Cup and at the end of the year achieved his first podium places in this competition. In 2012 he took part in the World Championships for the first time in Lake Placid , where he finished 17th in a foursome. Won made his World Cup debut as a pilot in February 2012 as 13th in the foursome in Whistler . In the following season he contested a total of eleven races in the World Cup , including his first races in Europe, with his best result being 17th in the big sled in Whistler. At the end of the season he won two two-man races in the North American Cup for the first time with Jun Jung-lin .

In the 2013/14 season Won Yun-jong started again exclusively in races in North America, winning four races in the North American Cup and at the World Cup in Lake Placid with a 15th place in a two-man improved his best performance as a pilot. In February 2014 he took part in the Olympic Games in Sochi , where he was 20th in the four-man bobsleigh and 18th with his regular pusher Seo Young-woo in the two-man. In 2014/15 Won concentrated more on races in Europe and at the beginning of the season achieved two podiums in the European Cup , whereupon he achieved his first top 10 places in the two-man bobsleigh in the World Cup . At the World Championships in Winterberg he finished fifth with Seo in the two-man and was 18th in the four-man bobsleigh.

In the 2015/16 Bobsleigh World Cup , Won achieved his first podium finishes in the World Cup with third places in the two-man bobsleigh in Altenberg, Winterberg and Lake Placid. In January 2016, at the same time as the Swiss duo Peter / Amrhein , he and Seo won what is probably the closest race in the history of the Bobsleigh World Cup with only one or two hundredths of a second ahead of Kasjanow / Pushkarev in third and Žaļims / Dambis in fourth. It was also the first ever World Cup victory for Korean bobsleigh athletes. At the season finale in Königssee, Won and Seo won again and also secured victory in the overall standings in two. At the beginning of the 2016/17 World Cup winter they finished third in Whistler.

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, he finished sixth in the two-man bobsleigh. He won the silver medal in the four-man bobsleigh.
