Joseph Wresinski
Joseph Wresinski (Polish Józef Wrzesiński ) (born February 12, 1917 in Angers , France , † February 14, 1988 in Suresnes , France) was the founder of the human rights movement ATD Fourth World .
Life
In 1956, the search for poor Jesus led Joseph Wresinski to a homeless camp on the outskirts of Paris. As a clergyman , Joseph Wresinski shared the life of the camp residents who were despised as "anti-social" and repeatedly oriented himself towards the hopes of the most excluded in order to build sustainable relationships with people torn by poverty and with the rest of society. For this project he was able to attract people of all faiths and worldviews. The World Day for Overcoming Poverty (October 17th) goes back to his initiative.
One of his core beliefs was: “Misery is not immutable; it is caused by humans, and humans can overcome it too. "
