Wright Island is a 56 km long island off the Bakutis coast of Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica . It is located on the northern edge of the Getz Ice Shelf , halfway between Carney Island and the Martin Peninsula .
Your position was determined from aerial photographs taken during Operation Highjump (1946–1947) in January 1947 . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them 1967 after Admiral Jerauld Wright (1898-1995), commander of the Atlantic Fleet and commander in chief of the operations of the United States Navy in Operation Deep Freeze during the International Geophysical Year (1957-1958).
