Wu Dan ( Chinese 巫 丹 ; born January 13, 1968 in Neijiang , People's Republic of China ) is a former Chinese volleyball player .
Career
Wu Dan played in the Chinese national team as a middle blocker and acceptance player since 1985 . At the age of 17, she won the World Cup in Japan in 1985 . A year later she became world champion in Czechoslovakia . At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 she won the bronze medal. After a third place in 1989 at the World Cup in Japan , a second place at the World Cup in 1990 in his own country and a second place in 1991 at the World Cup in Japan , Wu took part in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . Here she was tested positive for the banned substance strychnine and was suspended. In 1995 Wu played in the US League with the Columbia Cougars Missouri , where she was named the league's MVP . 1997/98 she was an assistant trainer at Florida State University . In the 1998/99 season Wu played for the German Bundesliga club Schweriner SC and was MVP here too . She then went to Italy and played for Pallavolo Reggio Calabria , with whom she won the 2000 CEV Cup . Then she took part with the national team for the third time in the Olympic Games and finished fifth in Sydney . 2001/02 Wu played as Libera at Foppapedretti Bergamo , with whom she was Italian champion and reached the final of the Champions League . 2003/04 she was active at league competitor Monte Schiavo Jesi and reached the final of the CEV Cup .
