The Wulfbach or the Wulf is a left tributary of the Danube on the Swabian Alb in Baden-Württemberg .
geography
Wulfbachquellen
The Wulfbach springs are located north of Mühlheim an der Donau in a small side valley. The Wulfbach rises in two larger karst springs . One of them is the exit of the Wulfbachquellhöhle , an active water cave. A spring a little below this has a large fill . The spring water that rises there is dammed up in a small basin. The discharge from the springs fluctuates between 10 and 200 l / s. Its catchment area extends over an area of 24 km² to Kolbingen in the north . Both streams only join in the hamlet of Mühlheim's old town .
course
The two streams that have sprung up in the springs flow parallel south to the old town . Today they operate the upper and middle mills and a sawmill . In earlier times the Wulfbach also fed the Untere Mühle . These three and one more mill directly on the Danube gave the city of Mühlheim, which at that time was only in the area of today's hamlet, its name. Until 1938, the spring water of the Wulfbach was used to supply the old town with drinking water . As the typhus diseases increased, the Wulbach spring was given up as a source of drinking water.
The Wulfbach then bends at the L443 in northern direction and passes through a Donau Altarm along the arc in the Danube cycle path . It crosses under the route of the Tuttlingen – Inzigkofen railway line and flows into the Danube .
fauna
The area of the Danube valley through which the Wulfbach flows is home to beavers and some water birds .
