Wunibald Braun

Wunibald Braun (born September 20, 1839 in Eiterfeld ; † December 29, 1912 ) was a German industrialist, co-founder and commercial head of the measurement and control technology company Hartmann & Braun AG, which he founded with Wilhelm Eugen Hartmann (1853–1915) . The creation and development of this company was his life's work.

He was the oldest of eight children of the court clerk Konrad Braun. Younger brothers were the classical philologist Philipp Braun and the Nobel Prize winner Ferdinand Braun . Wunibald Braun died in 1912, and Wilhelm Eugen Hartmann three years later . The sons of both founders, Franz Braun, Leonhard Braun and Robert Hartmann-Kempf joined the plant and its administration over the years and took over the management. In 1915 the chief physicist Th. Bruger also died; In 1920 he was followed by Franz Braun. Waldemar Braun , another son of the founder, joined the company's board in 1920. He expanded the company and led the reconstruction after the destruction of the World War. His grandson Wilfried Braun (born June 30, 1917August 10, 1999 ) took over the management of the company as the third generation. In 1967 Consul Wilfried Braun received a plaque of honor from the city of Frankfurt am Main .

Development of Hartmann & Braun AG

In 1968, AEG took over the majority of the company, which had been largely family-owned until then. Wilfried Braun initially remained managing director. In 1981 these shares were sold on by the ailing AEG to the Mannesmann Group. In 1995 the company was sold to the Italian-American Elsag Bailey Process Automation NV, based in Haarlem, the Netherlands. In 1997 the company headquarters moved to Eschborn. In 1999, the Elsag Bailey group was taken over by Asea Brown Boveri AG, with Hartmann & Braun being fully integrated. The holdings of the company archive are located in the Frankfurt Institute for Urban History.
