The Wyżni Kostur is a mountain on the Polish-Slovak border in the High Tatras with 2083 m in the Liptowskie Mury massif .
Location and surroundings
The state border runs over the main ridge of the Tatra Mountains , on which the Wyżni Kostur is located. Below the summit are two valleys, the Dolina Pięciu Stawów Polskich in the north and the Dolina Ciemnosmreczyńska in the south.
Wyżni Kostur is separated from the summit of Szpiglasowy Wierch in the east by the Wyżnia Liptowska Ławka mountain pass , and from the Niżni Kostur summit to the west by the Niżnia Liptowska Ławka mountain pass .
etymology
The Polish name Wyżni Kostur can be translated as Higher Kostur .
Flora and fauna
Despite its height, the Wyżni Kostur has a colorful flora and fauna. Numerous plant species occur, especially high alpine flowers and grasses. In addition to insects and mollusks and birds of prey, marmots and chamois also visit the summit.

There is currently no marked hiking trail on the Wyżni Kostur . The planned ridge path was never completed. However, a yellow marked hiking trail leads north below the summit from the mountain pass Szpiglasowa Przełęcz into the valley Dolina Pięciu Stawów Polskich . The mountain huts Schronisko PTTK nad Morskim Okiem and Schronisko PTTK w Dolinie Pięciu Stawów Polskich are suitable as a starting point for this .
