The Szpiglasowy Wierch (German Liptauer Grenzberg , Czech / Slovak Hrubý štít ) is a mountain on the Polish-Slovak border in the High Tatras with 2172 m. above sea level
Location and surroundings
The state border runs over the main ridge of the Tatra Mountains, on which the Szpiglasowy Wierch is located. Below the summit are three valleys, the Dolina Pięciu Stawów Polskich in the northeast, the Mönchtal in the northeast and the Smrecinertal ( Dolina Ciemnosmreczyńska ) in the south.
The Liptauer Greznberg is separated from the summit of Kopa nad Wrotami in the east by the Chałubiński-Tor ( Wrota Chałubińskiego ) mountain pass , and from the western summit of the Upper Liptauer Watchtower ( Wyżni Kostur ) by the Obere Liptauer Bank ( Wyżnia Liptowska Ławka ) mountain pass northern summit of Kupferberg ( Miedziane ) through the mountain pass Kupfersattel ( Szpiglasowa Przełęcz ).
etymology
The Polish name Szpiglasowy Wierch is derived from the German word Spißglas off, turn on the once mined in its vicinity stibnite is due.
The German name Gruby is derived from the older Polish name of the mountain Gruby Wierch , which translates as a thick peak . The German name Liptauer Grenzberg refers to the fact that the once Hungarian and now Slovak region of Liptau ends here.
Flora and fauna
Despite its height, the Liptauer Grenzberg has a colorful flora and fauna. Numerous plant species occur, especially high alpine flowers and grasses. In addition to insects and mollusks and birds of prey, marmots and chamois also visit the summit.

The Szpiglasowy Wierch is a popular peak with hikers. The climb is moderately difficult and the summit is easy to reach from the neighboring Szpiglasowa Przełęcz mountain pass .
Routes to the summit
The hiking trail to the Szpiglasowy Wierch leads from the Polish side of the mountain pass Szpiglasowa Przełęcz.
- ▬ A yellow hiking trail leads from the Szpiglasowa Przełęcz mountain passto the top. The mountain pass can again be reached on yellow-marked hiking trails from the Dolina Pięciu Stawów Polskich and Dolina Rybiego Potoku valleys. The ascent on the Ceprostrada from the last-mentioned valley is particularly simple and easy to manage even for inexperienced hikers. The ascent from the opposite side, however, is chain-secured. The mountain huts Schronisko PTTK nad Morskim Okiem and Schronisko PTTK w Dolinie Pięciu Stawów Polskich are suitable starting points for an ascent from the valleys.
