The hanging valley Dolina za Mnichem , also called Dolinka za Mnichem , formed by glaciers in the Ice Age , is located south of the mountain valley Dolina Rybiego Potoku , which in turn is a side valley of the Dolina Białki valley , in the Polish High Tatras in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship . It lies below the Miedziane , Szpiglasowy Wierch , Cubryna and Mnich peaks and about 300 meters above the Dolina Rybiego Potoku valley.

geography

The valley is less than a kilometer long and surrounded by mountains over 2400 meters high, especially the Cubryna massif . There are several small lakes in the valley, in particular Staw Staszica and the highest lake in Poland, Zadni Mnichowy Stawek . The Mnichowy Potok mountain stream has its source here.

etymology

The name is derived from the mountain Mnich and can be translated as Mönchstal or literally valley behind the Mönch .

Flora and fauna

The valley lies above the tree line. There are rare alpine flowers in the valley, including a. the edelweiss. The valley is a retreat for chamois, marmots and golden eagles.

climate

There is a high mountain climate in the valley.

Alpine farming

The valley originally belonged to the Hala Morskie Oko mountain pasture , making it the highest mountain pasture in Poland. After the Tatra National Park was established in 1954, the original owners were expropriated or forced to sell. Almwirtschaft has not been operated since then.

tourism

A red marked hiking trail leads through the valley from the Meerauge mountain laketo the Wrota Chałbinskiego mountain pass.

The lower part of the valley is crossed by a yellow hiking trail,called Ceprostrada , from the Meerauge mountain laketo the Szpiglasowa Przełęcz mountain pass.
