The copper mountain massif in between is 1.4 km long and has several peaks, one of which is the Adlerpfeiler ( Filar z Orłem ) with 2233 m. ü.NN is the highest.

In its western slope there are two caves, the Dziura w Miedzianym Kosturze I and the Dziura w Miedzianym Kosturze II .

etymology

The Polish name Miedziane and the German name Kupferberg both refer to the fact that copper was mined from its slopes in the 18th century. When mining stopped in the 19th century and the mountain was mainly used for alpine farming, the name was retained.

Flora and fauna

The Kupferberg was declared a strict nature reserve in 1956 due to its rich and rare flora.

First ascent

The ascent to the Kupferberg is quite easy. It can therefore be assumed that shepherds, miners and poachers have been climbing it since the 17th century at the latest. The alpine pasture laid out on it reached up to the summit. The first ascents that can be documented:

tourism

The Kupferberg was very popular with hikers because it was easy to climb and its summit offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the High Tatras. In the years 1894 to 1896, the then leading Polish and German landscape painters painted the 115-meter-long and 16-meter high circular painting Panorama Tatr on its summit , which was first exhibited in Munich and then in Warsaw in a specially built rotunda . Ludwig Boller died while working on the circular painting due to a fall in his Munich studio. Neither the rotunda nor the painting survived the turmoil of the 20th century. The entire massif of the Miedziane was declared a strict nature reserve in 1956 due to the rare alpine vegetation that occurs there and the hiking trail over its ridge was closed. As a result, it is currently no longer possible to climb the summit. The copper saddle is where you can get closest to the summit. From there he offers the viewer a pyramid shape.

At the foot of the massif are the shelters Schronisko PTTK nad Morskim Okiem in the east and Schronisko PTTK w Dolinie Pięciu Stawów Polskich in the west.
