The Brandkoppe ( Polish Opalony Wierch ) is a mountain in the massif of the Miedziane Grań in the Polish High Tatras in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship with an altitude of 2115 m npm
Location and surroundings
Below the summit are the valleys of the Fish Lake Valley ( Dolina Rybiego Potoku ) in the east, Five Lake Valley ( Dolina Pięciu Stawów Polskich ) in the west and Roztoka Marmot Valley ( Świstówka Roztocka ) in the north.
The Brandkoppe is separated from the summit of the Kupferberg ( Miedziane ) in the south by the Marchwiczna Sattel mountain pass . North of the summit, the ridge divides into two ridges. The Northwestern leads to the summit Ratzenkoppe ( Świstowa Czuba ) and the Northeast, even fire back ( Opalone called), leads to the summit Fünfseekoppe ( Roztocká Czuba ).
etymology
The Polish name Opalony Wierch can be translated as Browned Summit , analogous to the German name. It does not come from the color of the mountain, but from the sun's rays on it.
Flora and fauna
The Brandkoppe was declared a strict nature reserve in 1956 due to its rich and rare flora. Brown bears find shelter for hibernation on its slopes.
First ascent
The ascent to the Brandkoppe is quite easy. It can therefore be assumed that shepherds, miners and poachers have been climbing it since the 17th century at the latest. The alpine pasture laid out on it reached up to the summit. The first ascents that can be documented:
- Winter: Henryk Bednarski on April 17, 1911
tourism
The Brandkoppe was very popular with hikers because it was easy to climb and was close to the Kupferberg ( Miedziane ). The entire massif of the Miedziane was declared a strict nature reserve in 1956 due to the rare alpine vegetation that occurs there and the hiking trail over its ridge was closed. As a result, it is currently no longer possible to climb the summit. However, a blue marked hiking trail leads over its northeast slope from the Bergsee Meerauge to the Fünfseental .
At the foot of the massif are the shelters Schronisko PTTK nad Morskim Okiem in the east and Schronisko PTTK w Dolinie Pięciu Stawów Polskich in the west.
