XCF
XCF (from English eXperimental Computing Facility ) is the native file format of the free image processing program GIMP .
Text modules, paths and layers can be saved in an XCF file without loss, which makes it comparable to the PSD or PSPImages format of Adobe Photoshop or Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo . The layers can be saved with up to 32-bit integer or floating point numbers per pixel per color channel or an optional transparency channel in RGB color space or in a linear color space. GIMP also supports transparent compression of its file format; The compression algorithms bzip2 and gz are implemented , the compressed files then have the extensions .xcf.bz2 and .xcf.gz .
Support outside of the GIMP
XCF is fully supported by the following programs:
Other programs can read XCF, but only with more or less success:
- DBGallery
- ImageMagick has an XCF module
- Project Dogwaffle
- Krita uses GraphicsMagick for XCF support
- KolourPaint can read the XCF format using the KDE graphics plug-ins just like any other KDE graphics program.
- ShowImg
- Gwenview
- GImageView
- Digicam
- Imagine
- XnView
- Inkscape has supported XCF export since v0.44.
- XCFTools, a collection of software for manipulating XCFs.
- IrfanView can display XCF images (composite image and individual layers)
- Paint.NET can load and save XCF images (via ImXCF.FileType plug-in). The packed formats .xcfgz and .xcfbz2 are also supported.
- Eva's Generic Loaders extends the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries to include support for XCF, among others.
There are also some online services that offer the conversion of XCF files into various other formats:
- Online-Umwandeln.de , German online-umwandeln.de
- Zamzar , English zamzar
