The X Verleih AG (often also X-hire ) is a German film distributor with a focus on art-house cinema .

history

X-Verleih was founded in 2000 by the film production company X Films Creative Pool in Berlin. The aim was and is a close cooperation between directors (including Tom Tykwer and Wolfgang Becker ), authors, producers and distributors in a common infrastructure from the first idea to the cinema release. X Verleih brings all productions of the X Films Creative Pool to the cinemas, but is also involved in acquisition, development, evaluation and, in individual cases, as a co-producer of further films. In 2001, X Verleih concluded a cooperation agreement with the German branch of Warner Bros. , which allows the distributor to use Warner's distribution structure and to establish itself in the video and DVD market. On May 24, 2019, the Supervisory Board announced that CEO Manuela Stehr and her colleagues Andreas Dobers and Stefan Arndt had resigned from their positions and left the company on April 30, 2019. The German trade journal Blickpunkt: Film wrote that Stehr and Arndt retained their shares in X Verleih AG even after they withdrew from the company. Currently only Martin Kochendörfer is a member of the company's board of directors. The imprint of the official website of the rental company now lists Leila Hamid as CEO.
