Xolile Yawa

Xolile Yawa (born September 29, 1962 in Lady Frere , Emalahleni ) is a former South African long-distance runner .

Life

In 1987 he set a South African record in the half marathon with 1:02:30 h and with 27: 44.65 min and his personal best of 27: 39.65 min two national records in the 10,000-meter run . Overall, he was over these distances eleven times South African champion, nine times over 10,000 m (1985–1990, 1992, 1994, 1996) and twice in the half marathon (1986, 1988).

In 1992 he won the bronze medal in the 10,000 meter run at the African Championships in Mauritius . Over the same distance he finished 13th at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in the same year .

In the following years, Yawa concentrated more on the marathon . In 1993 he won the Berlin Marathon in a time of 2:10:57 h. In 1995 he finished fourth in the London Marathon with a personal best of 2:10:22 h . After a fatigue fracture prevented participation in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, he was twelfth in the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Athens the following year .

Xolile Yawa was 1.69 m tall and had a competition weight of 50 kg.
