Xu Qin

Xu Qin (Chinese: 许 勤; born October 1961 in Lianyungang , Jiangsu Province ) is a Chinese politician and the current governor of Hebei . He previously served as the mayor and then as the party leader and mayor of Shenzhen .

Life

Xu Qin was born in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province in 1961. In October 1978 he was admitted to Beijing Technical University to study photoelectrics. Upon graduation in 1982, he was hired by the state for Factory 559 (later part of Norinco ), a military contractor, to conduct scientific research involving military applications. Two years later, he returned to Beijing Technical University for a master's degree . After earning his Masters, he joined the National Planning Commission (the forerunner of the National Development and Reform Commission) in 1987 and began a career as a civil servant .

Xu worked in economic planning and assisted state industries in the area of ​​electromechanics for the next twenty years. In 2001, he enrolled in the Guanghua School of Management for an MBA . In 2003, as part of the National Development and Reform Commission, he was charged with overseeing planning in the field of high technology. In 2004 he received his PhD from Hong Kong Polytechnic University .

In April 2008, he was transferred to the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone to become vice mayor. In June 2010, he was named mayor of Shenzhen. Xu was mayor during the 2015 Shenzhen landslide, an industrial accident caused by human factors that killed 69 people. He apologized for the incident on behalf of the government and bowed publicly to acknowledge his responsibility. On December 31, 2016, after Ma Xingrui was promoted to the post of governor of Guangdong, Xu was named party leader of Shenzhen. He served as party leader and mayor at the same time for a few months.

In April 2017, Xu was transferred to Hebei as deputy party leader and governor-designate, where he was confirmed as governor of Hebei by the Provincial People's Congress on April 26, 2017. He will oversee the planning of Xiong'an City and the integration of the Jing-Jin-Ji economic area. He has also been head of the planning committee for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing since 2017 .
