Ma Xingrui ( Chinese  馬興瑞  /  马兴瑞 , Pinyin Mǎ Xīngruì ; born in October 1959 in Shuangyashan ) is a Chinese aerospace engineer and politician who is currently the governor of Guangdong Province . Ma is a full member of the 18th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party .

Ma Xingrui is considered one of the best scientists in the country. Previously, he was Vice President of Harbin Polytechnic University , General Manager of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation , Director of China National Space Administration, and Commander in Chief of Chang'e 3 , China's first successful lunar mission.

Life

Ma Xingrui was born in October 1959 in Shuangyashan, Heilongjiang Province, into a family of miners in industrial northeast China. His family is originally from the circle Yuncheng ( Shandong ). He received a bachelor's degree from Fuxin Mining College (now Liaoning University of Technology ) in 1982 and a degree in general mechanics from Tianjin University . He received his PhD in Mechanics from Harbin Polytechnic University (HIT). He joined the Chinese Communist Party in January 1988. In December 1991 he was appointed professor at HIT. In April 1992 he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Space Technology and in April 1996 Vice Rector of the University.

In May 1996, Ma was appointed Vice Dean of the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) and became the director and chief engineer of the Shijian 5 satellite project . In 1999, he was appointed vice president of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). In December 2003 he was also appointed chairman of the Sino Satellite Communications Company , jointly operated by CASC, the Chinese People's Bank and the then Commission for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense , and worked as deputy chief of staff on the early lunar missions . In September 2007 he was promoted to General Director of the CASC.

On March 19, 2013, Ma was appointed director of the China National Space Administration , director of China's Atomic Energy Agency, and head of the National Science, Technology and Industry Agency for National Defense with the rank of undersecretary. He was chief of staff on the successful Chang'e 3 mission , China's first moon landing.

In 2012, Ma was elected a full member of the 18th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. In November 2013, Ma left his position in academia and was transferred to Guangdong, where he was deputy party leader in Guangdong and the secretary of the provincial political and legal commission. In March 2015, he was appointed secretary of the Shenzhen Communist Party , replacing Wang Rong .

In December 2016, Ma was appointed governor of Guangdong Province. Ma is the first non-provincial governor in over 30 years. Ma took office on January 23, 2017.
