The district of Yauyos is located in the province of Yauyos in the Lima region in the central west of Peru . The district was founded in 1825. It has an area of ​​332 km². At the 2017 census there were 1,481 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 1966, in 2007 it was 2698. The district administration is located in the 2874  m high village of Yauyos with 1039 inhabitants (as of 2017). Yauyos is also the seat of the provincial government.

Geographical location

The district of Yauyos is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera, in the center of the province of Yauyos. The Río Cañete River flows along the eastern district boundary towards the south-southwest. The place Yauyos is located in a western side valley, which ends at the southern foot of the Llongote ( 5781  m ).

The district of Yauyos borders in the west on the district Allauca , in the northwest on the Ayaviri , in the northeast on the district Carania , in the east on the districts Huantán and Colonia and in the extreme south on the district Putinza .
